Learn how to set the notifications to an email with the new reviews and comments submitted via the JetReviews Listing widget.
Before you start, check the tutorial requirements:
- Elementor (free version) or Block editor (Gutenberg) installed and activated
- JetReviews plugin installed and activated
The JetReviews plugin allows sending email notifications of new reviews or comments submitted by users on the website directly to the admin’s mailbox.
Enable Disallowed Content Checking
Suppose a user submits a review on the website, and the review content (including a title or comment field) contains words from the Disallowed words field specified by the Admin. In that case, the review is automatically disapproved and will not be posted on the front end.
Things to know
Learn more about this feature in the How to Enable Content Keywords Moderation in Reviews and Comments tutorial.
To add disallowed words, you should go to WordPress Dashboard > Crocoblock > JetPlugins Settings > JetReviews > Advanced:
- Enable disallowed content checking — a toggle that enables checking reviews and comments for disallowed words (disabled by default);
- Disallowed words — a field where one can add disallowed keywords that will trigger automatic review disapproval.
New Review Notify
To enable the notification of a newly submitted review, one should go to WordPress Dashboard > Crocoblock > JetPlugins Settings > JetReviews > Advanced:
- New review notify — a toggle that enables sending email notifications of all newly-submitted reviews to the admin (disabled by default);
- Review approve needed notify — a toggle that enables sending email notifications to the admin about new reviews only when they need approval (disabled by default);
- Post author notify — a toggle that enables sending email notifications to both the admin and the post author (disabled by default).
Review approval settings for a specific review type can be found under WordPress Dashboard > JetReviews > Review Types:
- New review approval — a toggle that enables email notifications to the admin when new reviews need approval (disabled by default).
New Comment Notify
Apart from the reviews, users can also leave comments for already added reviews.
To enable comments, one should go to WordPress Dashboard > Crocoblock > JetPlugins Settings > JetReviews > Advanced:
- New comment notify — a toggle that enables email sending of a notification to the admin whenever anyone submits a comment (disabled by default);
- Comment approve needed notify — a toggle that enables email sending of a notification to the admin only when approval is needed (disabled by default).
The email will be sent only if the New comments need approval toggle located under the Advanced Settings of a selected review type is activated.
New Feature in Action
Now, let’s check how the email notification feature works in the following use case.
Firstly, enable reviews for the needed review type in Review Types. Select a necessary review type, and enable the New review approval and New review comments need approval toggles.
Add a Review Listing widget to the Single Product Page Template.
Leave a test review to try out the system.
After clicking on the “Submit a review” button, a “Your review must be approved by the moderator” notification will appear.
At the same time, an email notification will be sent to the site admin. The email notification contains details about the post for which the review was submitted, the name and email of the review author, the date and time of review submission, the review comment, rating, satisfaction percentage, and links for approval and disapproval.
Submitted reviews can be approved/edited/deleted by going to the WordPress Dashboard > JetReviews > All Reviews section.
