Learn how to add reviews with grades and images to posts using the Reviews Listing widget/block of the JetReviews plugin for WordPress and manage the reviews via the WordPress dashboard.
Before you start, check the tutorial requirements:
- Elementor (Free version) or Block editor (Gutenberg)
- JetReviews plugin installed and activated
In this tutorial, we demonstrate a case of adding reviews to posts using the Reviews Listing widget/block. In particular, the review can include some fields, grades, and average data. Also, we explain how to manage the collected reviews (e.g., delete, approve, edit) to allow the reviews to be displayed.
Things to know
The JetReviews plugin allows adding both reviews and comments to posts, Custom Post Types (CPT) , and more. Watch the How to Create a Commenting System? video for more details.
Create a New Review Type
Navigate to the WordPress Dashboard and open JetReviews > Review Types. Click the “Add New” button at the top of the page. Then, fill out the needed fields in the newly appeared Add New Review Type page.
First, we enter the Name (the “Reviews for Posts,” in this case), and after that, the Slug field is filled out automatically. Next, we set the “User” Source and the “WP User” option in the Source Type drop-down list.
Read the How to Enable Reviews for Any Custom Post Type tutorial for more details about configuring the corresponding settings.
Things to know
To add reviews to CPT posts, select the “Post” Source and the needed CPT in the Source Type drop-down list.
In the next step, we move to the Advanced Settings section and press the “Add New Field” button.
After that, we fill out the Label, Step, and Max Value fields.
Press the “Add New Field” button to add another field for a multi-field review. Define who can add reviews in the Allowed roles bar and set the options according to your needs. Here, in addition to the default ones, we add the “Guest” role.
Also, to allow displaying reviews without pre-moderation of the admin, turn on the New review approval toggle and the Upload media toggle. After that, the Allowed media field will open, showing the pre-set media file formats. Since we do not intend to limit visitors with formats, we keep the default ones. Also, the Max upload file size(MB) text field will be added. Here, we keep the default value at “5” Mb.
You can find more details in the How to Create a New Review Type tutorial.
When you are done, hit the “Create/Update Review Type” button.
Add Reviews to Posts
To add the reviews to a post, open the needed one in the editor you prefer. In this case, we use Elementor.
Once opened, find the Reviews Listing widget and drag and drop it to the page.
The “Posts” option in the Source drop-down list is set by default. Since we created the review for users, the widget’s settings should be adjusted.
Adjust the Reviews Listing Settings
The Settings tab is unrolled by default. Here, we select the “Users” Source for reviews, “Stars” Rating Layout, “Stars” Rating Input Type, and “Average” Review Rating Type (“Average” or “Default”).
After that, the widget changes its view.
Next, we type the number of Reviews per Page and keep the Show Review Author Avatar, Show Review Title, Show Review Title Field, Show Review Content Field, and Show Comment Author Avatar toggles enabled by default.
In the next step, we keep the default values of the Icons settings.
Also, we leave the default values of the Labels settings.
Finally, we publish the post.
Submit the Review
Once the post is published, open it on the front end and press the “Write a review” button.
Then, fill out the review fields.
Next, fill out the text field, put the needed number of stars in the Grade field, and upload an image.
Finally, scroll the page down and press the “Submit a review” link.
Since we set the pre-moderation of the added reviews, after pressing this link, the review disappears.
Instead, the review is added to the JetReviews dashboard in the WordPress > JetReviews > All Reviews > Review List tab. Here, to display the review on the front end, we press the “Approve” link.
Finally, the review will be displayed under the post on the front end.
That’s it. Now you know how to add reviews with grades and images to posts using the Reviews Listing widget/block of the JetReviews plugin for WordPress and manage the reviews via the dashboard.
